Autism And Nutrition

Nutrition is basically divided into six broad categories of water, carbohydrates, minerals, fats, protein, and vitamins. As a certified herbalist, and a student of this science for over 14 years, I have come to realize that eating healthy means eating foods that are rich in natural nutrients that come from planet earth to nourish our bodies. While proper nutrition may be hard to fit into one’s schedule and it may take effort and discipline, it is more than worth it for not only producing a beautiful smile, but also helping your body stay strong and healthy.\n\nAn athlete prepares and practices for such activities by eating nutrients which gives peak energy levels at desired moment. The foods that an infant eats within the first few months have far reaching implications. The best advice is to start young and to lead by example: Toddlers have no preconceptions of food when they start eating – it is all learnt from us. Soon the idea of a fruit snack instead of sweets will be as natural as falling of a log.\n\nSupply your body with nutrient dense foods whenever you are hungry! Protein can be provided to an infant from foods sources such as fortified milk and legumes. With excess dietary calories, this abdominal fat continues to grow at a rate faster than the blood can supply it with nutrients.\n\nThey encouraged the use of nutrients, economical soybeans in everyday food. A lot of sugars and chemical preservatives and additives can cause havoc to the body, creating an imbalance in the vitamin content. All of these in combination work together to provide more of the benefits from eating healthy whole foods.\n\nIt probably does this through creating homeostasis in the body that balances the system out. Processed foods also offer few nutrients compared to fresh foods. It adds more good to your diet without getting the bad with it. People can take just a few capsules a day and it will suffice for their daily vegetable, fruit and whole grain requirement.

Art Literally Brought Me Back To A Full Life

Art Literally Brought Me Back To A Full Life

Nickolas Hale has a compelling tale to tell. He actually sought us out to relay his story.

He was working three jobs simultaneously and at 24 believed he was invincible. Well, that was, until he suffered a stroke as a consequence. As he lay in the Nepean Hospital and listened to the doctors pronounce that he would never walk again, it made him determine one thing, that he would prove them wrong.

As well as doing the rehab advised by the physiotherapists, he also began to express himself through art. Only five of the 40 who were in the same section as he, chose to do so. He definitely advanced more quickly than the other 35. After four months he walked out of hospital and is so grateful for the contribution art played in his recovery. He is married now with a son and maintains permanent employment. Art is his relaxation, therapy and hobby. He didn’t paint before the stroke but has unleashed a hidden talent now.

Meeting Nickolas and hearing his journey was made the more remarkable when I learnt that he also does volunteer work. This brave young man works with disabled children using both his expertise as a chef and as an artist. He shows them how to use the plate as a canvas. The children are encouraged to arrange food in tempting and colourful patterns. It is a favourite time of the week and he is astounded with the progress they have made.

Nickolas warns all would be, ‘invincible people’ to take time out and enjoy life.

Art played an enormous role in the life of Sylvia during her recovery from breast cancer. Encouraged by the Breast Cancer group in her area, she began painting with water colours. Her tutor saw her emerge from a nervous, worried lady to one of serenity and hope. It appeared as though healing and happiness grew with each brush stroke. Her career had been an academic one and she found little time for the arts.

With each new painting, so her skill developed from rank amateur to exhibition status. No one was more amazed than she, when her work sold and indeed, was sort after by art life took on a whole new perspective and led to a career and lifestyle change. Gone was the nervous woman and in her place a new Sylvia, who actually took time to see and enjoy the world around her. Her new found contentment was expressed in her subject matter and choice of colours. She is enthusiastic about life and is now encouraging others to explore their potential.

She has found art to be a soothing, satisfying way of alleviating stress in breast cancer victims and reports that many other ladies have developed new found talents too. Don’t wait for adversity to set you on the path of creativity. Start now in whatever medium you choose. You may be surprised by your hidden talents.

Eat Fat and Loose Weight

Eat Fat and Loose Weight

One teaspoon of FAT!

When you are on a diet to loose weight the fear of hunger and the reality of poor nutrition is a concern. A first practice for dieting is eating less. This is a good thing if the quality of nutrition is very high and the absorption rate is effective for good health and energy.

If 1 teaspoon of fat is eaten with every meal the delay in digestion will give less hunger time before the next meal. Fat takes a longer time to digest than other foods. Eaten in combination with other foods delays digestion.

Savoring the taste of fat is pleasurable and will also add to the time taken to eat. It takes about twenty minutes for the brain to get the message of satiety so this slower eating practice will lessen the amount taken in. If you eat without realizing your need you will take in food that is unnecessary. Eat slowly with thoughtful awareness of your need.

Fat is a crucial solvent for Vitamins A, D, E and K. This is not a complete list as there are other nutrients that need the presence of fat to be absorbed and digested. If fat is present then more nutrients are accessible by the body systems and good health is a result. Less food will give good health because of the higher efficiency of digestion. Fat is the key.

One teaspoon of peanut butter is one serving of fat for an average adult. Other nut butters such as almond, sesame (in the form of tahini), walnut, sunflower seeds are good choices also. Some may prefer grape seed or sesame seed oils and saturated fats such as coconut and avocado.

Eat fat and loose weight. Savor the valuable servings of fat.…

Golfing Handicap System – The Basics

Golfing Handicap System – The Basics

What is the handicap system?

When buying golf equipment, it is recommended to ask the supplier what level of handicap the club is best suited for. Some golfing equipment is specifically tailored for scratch players whilst some is more suitable for higher handicap players. For optimum playing it is recommended that golfers find out what their handicap is and find a golf club to suit. This is why understanding the handicap system is so important in the world of golf.

In golf, the handicap system is used to establish fair play between different levels of golfers in tournaments or friendly play. The handicap system is copyrighted by the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) and is a recognised system within the UK and Ireland. It basically measures an amateur golfer’s current standard of play. It also stands as a great way of measuring whether a golfer is making progress and highlights areas of a golfer’s technique requiring improvement. The higher the handicap of the golfer, the lower their golfing ability is considered to be.

How does a handicap work?

The extra shots a handicap player is allowed to take ensures that all golfers of different ability levels can play together as equals using a fair system and makes the game more interesting. The number of handicaps is deducted from the handicap golfer’s score on certain holes. Handicap scores range from 1 to 28 for men and 1 to 36 for women.

A golfer’s handicap score represents how many strokes are allowed to be deducted on particular holes. A scratch player is a person with zero handicaps and is expected to complete the course with the same score as the standard scratch score (SSS) of the course. The scratch score of a course isn’t necessarily the sum of par. The County Union calculates the scratch score by taking the length of the course and naturally difficult conditions into account and bases the SSS on that.

What are the methods of applying for a handicap?

Only golf clubs affiliated with CONGU may administer handicaps to amateur golfers. In order to obtain a handicap, golfers have to become a member of an affiliated club and submit 3 or more score cards to the club for calculation. The club will then assess a suitable handicap score using the golfer’s lowest score and calculating the difference between that and the scratch score of the course.

How are handicaps applied to different games?

Handicaps are used differently in match play and stroke play. In match play the handicap score is calculated using the difference between the players/teams’ handicaps and is distributed over the holes to be played. For example on an 18 hole course, if player A has a handicap of 18 and player B has a handicap of 24 then player B is allowed 6 strokes over the six hardest holes with no stroke allowance on the remaining 12. Player A would be regarded as the scratch player. Once …

Cholesterol Versus Homocysteine

Cholesterol Versus Homocysteine

Has your doctor ever recommended a blood test to check your homocysteine level?

After you have read this article, I guarantee you will wonder why. Not many people have ever heard of it, yet it is responsible for 15% of all heart attacks and strokes in the world.

Wouldn’t it be worth to know more about this major killer, more so when you realize that you can correct it by simply taking vitamin B? The research on homocysteine was done by Dr. Kelmer Mc Cully, a promising pathologist and researcher, who graduated from the Harvard Medical School in the mid 1960’s.

Dr. Mc Cullly was in particular interested in studies that involved the connection of biochemistry with disease. He earned a strong reputation and became assistant professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr Mc Cully discovered that children who had a genetic defect that kept them from breaking down an essential amino acid called methionine. These children showed a tremendous buildup of a by-product, called homocysteine.

Dr. Mc Cully looked at two special cases of two under eight years old boys, who died from a heart attack. When he examined the boys’ pathology slides, he discovered that the damage to the arteries was similar to that of an elderly man, who had severe hardening of the arteries.

This led Dr. Mc Cully to wonder whether mild to moderate elevations of homocysteine that were present over a lifetime could be a cause of heart attacks and strokes in the average patient. Homocysteine is an intermediate byproduct that we produce when our bodies breakdown the amino acid called methionine. It is found in large quantities in meat, eggs, milk, cheese, white flour, canned foods and highly processed foods.

Unlike cholesterol, which the body needs for the production of certain cell parts and hormones, homocysteine provides no health benefit. The higher the level of homocysteine, the greater the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Homocysteine is converted by our bodies into either cysteine or back to methionine again. These products are not harmful, however, the enzymes to break down homocysteine into cysteine, need folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. If we are deficient in these nutrients, the homocysteine levels in our blood begin to rise.

Dr. Mc Cully’s theory was shut down and he lost his job at Harvard’s, because at that time the cholesterol- heart attack theory was gaining tremendous momentum and Dr Mc Cully’s hypothesis were a threat to its future.

The cholesterol theory achieved great victory and killed all other threatening theories.

Drug companies made their fortunes and everybody was convinced that heart attacks and strokes were associated with high blood cholesterol levels. Are you? If you have read my article about Nutritional Medicine, you should know better!

Anyway, the medical society and the pharmaceutical Companies did an excellent job selling this to the medical community and to the general public.…

Whole Food Nutrition

When it comes to pregnancy nutrition, mothers-to-be should consider supplementing with whole food vitamins. Amongst dietary supplements, magnesium citrate has been regularly proven as the most bioavailable, beating the oxide and amino-acid chelate forms for its rate of absorption. Next came the RAW line of products, which uses the same nutrients found in The Vitamin Code and includes protein powders, green foods and meal replacements as well as probiotics.\n\nTraditional Vitamin B supplements will generally contain only the synthetic form of one or more of the B vitamin group, while whole food supplements will contain all of the Vitamin B family along with the added benefits of phytonutrients such as inositols, PABA, biotin and choline derived from concentration of whole foods.\n\nAdditionally, different fruits and vegetables contain different vitamins which are often shown through the different bright colors that they have. When you avoid taking in harmful chemicals such as those in food preservatives, flavorings, flavor enhancers and ‘synthetic vitamin additives’, you’ll not only reduce your intake of toxins.\n\nThis remarkable formula contains no synthetic vitamins. People with health conditions such as allergies are opting for more organic food products in comparison to conventional health food products. It turns out all the isolated chemicals used to make vitamin supplements can be found in whole food.\n\nVital Nutrients supplement contains naturally occurring minerals and vitamins which exist in their biological state of chelation, making them more absorbable – after all if a nutrient cannot be absorbed in the digestive tract, it cannot be used by the body.

Foods heal illness, provide our cells with energy, prevent disease and build our immunity. When vitamins appear in nature there is a slew of accompanying enzymes, coenzymes, antioxidants, trace elements, and activators that help the body absorb the vitamins. This is one of those dietary components that most people haven’t heard of. It’s got a difficult name, and there are no major illnesses associated with deficiency in it. However, the potential benefits to consuming it are tremendous.\n\nThe small number of individuals who do eat their veggies will typically consume commercially processed foods, still leaving their body deficient in many crucial nutrients and ingesting a variety of chemical residues. Whole Food Supplement calcium products will contain additional nutrients such as amino acids and vitamin C which are necessary for calcium absorption and utilization.\n\nThe effect of whole food supplements has been very favorably contrasted with artificial supplements such as multivitamins. Additionally, multi-nutrient supplements contain more than just vitamins. Many vitamin labels will start out like this Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Phosphate, Magnesium Oxide, all synthetic lab or man created chemicals.\n\nThe key is that foods, including the foods organic and wild crafted whole food supplements, contain a wide variety of nutrients that our bodies desperately need and use to maintain health, healing, prevention and immunity. There are many synthetic zinc supplements on the market.\n\nThe Paleo Diet (or caveman diet) is based on the kinds of foods that our human ancestors ate for millions of years, long before agriculture and fast food restaurants came to be. For most of the time humans have been on the planet, they had to collect (hunt and gather) their food from whatever was around them in nature.…

Type 2 Diabetes – High Blood Sugar Levels and Your Heart

Type 2 Diabetes – High Blood Sugar Levels and Your Heart

People who have Type 2 diabetes are two to four times more likely than non-diabetics to develop heart disease or have a stroke. It is also true approximately three-fourths of all diabetics die from heart disease.

But many diabetics might not be really aware of just how much diabetes can impact their heart, and in how many ways it can occur.

Cardio refers to “heart” and vascular means “blood vessels.” These two go hand-in-hand because the heart is the machine that pumps blood through your vessels. A problem anywhere in your body will affect how the cardiovascular system works.

Why does this happen? The same hormone, insulin, whose job it is to carry sugar into your cells for fuel also helps to lead fat into other body cells for storage. So if you lack insulin, or if it doesn’t work as it is supposed to, fat continues to circulate in your bloodstream. Too much sugar and too much fat floating around in your bloodstream leads to clogged blood vessels.

What is the result? The result is then:

high blood pressure,

clots forming, and

extra strain placed on your heart,

hence heart attack and stroke.

Blood Pressure: When blood vessels constrict and become pressurized, this pressure translates into elevated blood pressure throughout your body and especially in your heart. The damage allows plaque to build up, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This blockage allows even more pressure to build. When your blood pressure increases, even a little, it puts unnecessary strain on your heart making it work harder. But increasing it to this level, the strain it produces is extreme.

When blood pressure becomes elevated it also means there is a restricted flow of oxygen to your brain, other major organs, and your heart. This starving of oxygen also means tissue fed by this blood becomes starved, as well.

As Type 2 diabetes runs out-of-control, it means there are also dramatic negative changes within your blood. Elevated blood sugar levels means elevated LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, lower levels of HDL, or “good” cholesterol, and elevated triglyceride levels, which reflect the amount of fat in your blood. High blood sugar also means there is a significant increase in the likelihood of clotting, which is why diabetes increases the incidence of stroke.

If the person with diabetes also has a sedentary lifestyle, now the odds are increased even more. Add smoking or a high consumption of alcohol and they rise even higher. If these habits are not changed their heart is, in essence, the same as a ticking time bomb, waiting to experience an episode.

This is why it is vital all diabetics maintain ideal blood sugar levels… not only to keep their disease under control, but for all the other medical complications it creates.…

Vital Nutrients

Foods heal illness, provide our cells with energy, prevent disease and build our immunity. Nutrients that Protect the System: Whole foods such as vegetables and fruits provide phytochemicals which are naturally occurring compounds like beta-carotene that are found naturally in many plants and evidence suggests help protect from some cancers and high blood pressure.\n\nWhen whole food vitamin capsules are made from natural sources, they would contain the entire range of several vitamins and minerals along with several micro-nutrients. Rather than simply isolating these nutrients, they remain attached to their whole food ingredients to allow the body to recognize and readily utilize them.\n\nBut they add with some consideration that if you do take whole food vitamins, take the natural ones instead of the synthetic pills, compiled in labs and marketed with pomp and glitter. Calcium contained in most traditional supplements will contain only calcium carbonate or calcium citrate with the possible addition of Vitamin D or may contain D1-calcium-phosphate which is completely insoluble and cannot be absorbed.\n\nThese foods are often high in preservatives and low in nutritional value, so over time we can build up serious deficiencies of the nutrients our bodies need. Thirdly, there must be dozens of ingredients including vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, amino acids, and enzymes.\n\nThere is a difference between whole foods and high potency synthetics, and your body knows it. Test animals on a high potency enriched diet do not live as long as those on the same low vitamin diet without enrichment. For example look for spices such as cloves and cinnamon for natural metabolic boosters or acidophilus and bifidus with inulin for healthy gut and digestion.
