How To Swim The Butterfly Stroke? Learning Steps

How To Swim The Butterfly Stroke? Learning Steps

The butterfly stroke is one of the more difficult swimming strokes because it requires a specific style, and it needs a lot of stamina. Although the movements are used in other strokes, in this particular combination many people struggle with timing. It also takes coordination to be able to achieve speed.

Before attempting to swim the butterfly stroke, build up strength by practicing and perfecting the other strokes. The butterfly stroke is usually the last stroke to be learned by athletes.

1. Arms Under and Over

The arms work together at the same time. Both arms come out of the water over the head and around in a circle – vertical to the water. The arms land out stretched on top of the water in front of the shoulders.

They now have to push down towards the toes, and when they reach the thigh, they need to come out of the water, go over the head and land outstretched in front of the shoulders.

It is similar to doing the crawl with both arms at the same time.

2. The Kick

The central part of the butterfly stroke is the kick. A kick that requires the legs and feet to be stuck together and act like a dolphin’s flipper. The legs should work together in unison in a fluid wave like manner. In the beginning wearing flippers may be a good idea to get the feel; however, do not practice the kick holding on to a board, as this does not let the body move in the correct way for the stroke.

3. Rhythm of the Kick

One stroke of the arms is accompanied by two kicks. It consists of a small kick when the outstretched arms go into the water, then a large kick to push the body out of the water. At the same time of the large kick, the arms are lifting out of the water going over the head and plunging in to the water to be dragged down towards the toes.

The rhythm of small kick and big kick is the mainstay of how to swim the butterfly stroke and must be mastered fully.

4. Breadth

The head should be kept underwater through most of the stroke. The time to take a breath is when the arms are pushing down towards the toes and almost at the thigh. This is the point the head will come out of the water and a breadth can be taken. The head needs to be back in the water immediately, otherwise, it will be impossible to continue the stroke and bring the arms out of the water and over the head.

5. Body Roll

The movement of the body is unique in how to swim the butterfly stroke, as it not only requires the legs to stay together, but the whole body rolls in a fluid wave with the arms and two kicks making it possible to move forward. Very similar …

Buying Used Outboards

Buying Used Outboards

Used Outboards – Are you looking at buying a used outboard motor? If you are looking at buying a used outboard you should consider all of the options available to you. Some questions you should be asking firstly yourself is –

What will I mainly be using the outboard for?

How many hours will I be doing each year?

How much can I spend?

How much can I afford for maintenance?

Each outboard motor manufacturer produces a very different outboard from the last. Some of these outboards suit different applications. For example, if you are looking at doing a lot or trolling, then you could possibly consider a four stroke outboard. The issue with most two stroke outboards is if you do a lot of trolling and idling, they can be very smokey and have the issue of fouling spark plugs.

If you are doing large hours with your outboard motor, then you will want an efficient outboard motor. A four stroke outboard or a direct injected two stroke, like a Mercury Optimax, Evinrude Etec, or Yamaha HPDI.

When buying used outboards the cost is a huge factor. You need to make sure that used outboard is in excellent condition, especially if you are on a tight budget. For instance, a used outboard motor over 5 years old will need to have the Powerhead gaskets replaced straight away, or within the next few years. Outboard Powerhead gaskets on used outboards can cost around $1000 – $1500. If you did not budget for this when shopping for a used outboard it can really put a stop to your boating season if you do not have the finances to have the Powerhead serviced.

As a rule of thumb, fuel injected two stroke outboards and four stroke outboards are a few hundred dollars more to service than carburettor two stroke outboards. This is an important area to consider when shopping for your second hand or used outboards. If you only do low hours, like 30 hours a year, it will probably cost you more to have a four stroke or fuel injected two strokes. This is because of the extra service costs. If you do large hours, 80 hours a year or more, then the extra fuel efficiency will save you money in the long run.

Used outboards are for sale for a reason – You really need to find out why that is. Quite possibly it is a genuine reason, the owner might do large hours and wants the extra fuel efficiency, and the owner might want a quieter outboard as the old two strokes might be quite noisy. Or, the outboard might have an underlying problem or issue and that is why it is for sale. This is why getting used outboards inspected before you buy them is very important! A used outboard inspection should be carried out by an experienced technician or outboard mechanic. They should go over the outboard motor from top to bottom. Carrying out …

Stroke Sense – Understanding Stroke

Stroke Sense – Understanding Stroke

The effect of the sudden loss of body function as a result of stroke damage to the brain can be devastating to victim and family alike. Fortunately, there is much you can do the reduce your risk.

The incidence of stroke has declined dramatically over the last 30 years. Healthy diets and lifestyles, plus effective treatment of high blood pressure, have contributed greatly. More men than women are killed by stroke, with the greater incidence of female deaths after age 75 being explained simply by women’s greater longevity.

The brain is damaged by stroke because this vital organ’s blood or oxygen supply is interrupted or blood leaks into or onto the brain and damages the tissue. The result is that the brain’s nerve cells and tracts can no longer transmit messages to the body. This means that functions such as speech, movement, coordination and thinking become impaired. Disability can be permanent or short-term.

Many stroke sufferers experience a kind of “mini” stroke before they fall victim to the real thing. This is known as a “transient ischemic attack” (TIA) and is a warning signal that a sufficient supply of blood is not reaching part of the brain. Any of these symptoms that follow may signify a TIA. They may last for periods of a few seconds to 24 hours and any of them may herald a full stroke. People who get medical treatment and follow lifestyle changes after a TIA can substantially reduce their risk of suffering a full stroke.

Warning of Impending Stroke–Seek Medical Attention For:

Brief disturbances of vision

Short periods of weakness

Brief numbness anywhere

Unaccustomed tingling

Fleeting paralysis

Momentary loss of speech

Brief comprehension difficulty

Stroke is the third-major cause of adult death in the U.S. after heart disease and cancer, and there are about 500,000 new cases of stroke each year. However, the risk of suffering a stroke can be dramatically reduced. Simple measures like switching to a low-fat diet and maintaining a healthy blood pressure will help keep strokes at bay and help keep you active and enjoying everyday life longer.

You can do a great deal to reduce or even eliminate the risk of stroke. Your two main goals are to keep your blood pressure within normal limits and to prevent the development of atherosclerosis, a narrowing of the arteries.

Following a healthful diet is one of the main ways of preventing atherosclerosis and keeping blood pressure down. A diet low in saturated fat and high in fiber and the antioxidant vitamins C and E will give you a lot of protection. Giving up smoking, taking up regular, strenuous exercise and watching your weight and your blood cholesterol level are also important, stroke-defying measures. If you have diabetes, make sure you keep it under proper control.

Raised blood pressure does not, until dangerously high, cause any symptoms. So you must have regular checkups–the American Heart Association recommends annual checkups for adults.

Research has shown that the risk of …

Simple Healthy Living

As we lead busy fast paced lives we often come home and reach for the processed foods because they are quick and easy to make. I read medical journals and double blind studies, and if the study doesn’t definitively state whether the tests were done with whole food vitamins or if they were done with synthetic vitamins I throw them out. Therefore, if we won’t consume hale and hearty foods, the body will rundown of these essential nutrients and illnesses and disorders will happen.\n\nRaw fish oil vitamins, such as salmon fish oil or cod liver oil, are good examples of whole food vitamins. A whole food vitamin can start replacing the depleted levels of nutrients we have in our system. Most of us know that the best places to find health-sustaining nutrients is through a diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, for example, but few of us actually get enough of these foods in our day-to-day regimens.\n\nMulti-nutrient supplements that contain organic whole food vitamins therefore have just the correct amount of beneficial ingredients. These phytonutrients are just a few examples of natural molecules known to aid in promotion of health and make the case for the use of Whole Food Supplements.\n\nWhen we say essential nutrients, it means that the body can’t create these elements on its own. Once thought to be a single vitamin, these were later discovered to be a group of chemically distinct vitamins that frequently coexist in particular foods. Only intake of naturally-occurring vitamins, found in wholesome organic foods can most benefit our body’s performance.\n\nThis was not to ensure that Americans had a great diet but actually to ensure that American families could feed themselves at all, while allowing most of commercial food production to be sent to the troops overseas. Studies demonstrate that our body treats isolated and synthetic nutrients like foreign substances (xenobiotics).…

Truck Accidents – Physical and Psychological Factors

Truck Accidents – Physical and Psychological Factors

In many accidents, the driver is at fault. And not only because he made the wrong decision at the wrong time, but because they didn’t considered his shortcoming upfront. The psychological and physical conditions of the driver are as important as the truck.

Most companies, and even most drivers only care about the maintenance of the truck and disregard the well-being of the driver. This is an extremely counterproductive strategy, since a bad driver can cost thousands and thousands more than a broken truck. A simple truck accident implies not only repairing the truck, but losing the load and paying more insurance for the truck the next year.

Exposure to climatic factors potentially harmful to health, such as extreme cold or heat, or combinations of temperature, humidity and wind can cause frostbite or heat stroke

Exposure to sudden changes in temperature in and out of the car pool, which can cause colds and rheumatism

Vibrations affecting the whole body and possible effects on the functions of abdominal and chest and musculoskeletal system, causing fatigue and slow reactions

Understand and use safe techniques for lifting and handling heavy loads. Avoid inhaling exhaust gases to. Use sunglasses to drive, when needed.
