Protein Storage – A Time Bomb!

Obese people have both high concentrations of fats and excessive amounts of protein in the blood. The blood’s tendency towards clotting, considered to be the greatest cause for heart attack or stroke, stems almost exclusively from the saturation of proteins in the blood. (Note that smoking also increases blood protein concentrations, as shown below). Fats, on the other hand, have no blood-clotting ability. In their attempt to avert a heart attack, the capillary cells absorb the excessive protein, convert it into collagen fiber, and store it in their basal membranes. Although this emergency response has a blood-thinning and, therefore, life-saving effect, it also makes the blood walls thicker and more vulnerable to injury.

Examinations of connective tissue in obese people have proved that it contains not only plump fat cells, but also large amounts of dense collagen-fiber. Collagen is 100 percent pure protein. Building more collagen-fiber than normally needed is one of the main emergency measures the body takes to deal with dangerously high protein concentrations in the blood. By removing the protein from the blood and thereby putting it out of circulation, the blood becomes thin and a major crisis is avoided. But the situation changes drastically when the body’s ‘protein stores’ are all filled up to capacity, and protein consumption continues. This time, the blood becomes and remains saturated with protein. In such a case, the blood begins to permanently thicken and develop a tendency towards clotting.

Unless the afflicted person takes aspirin, which has a blood-thinning effect, a stroke or heart attack may occur. Yet in the long term, aspirin not only fails to prevent such an incidence but strongly encourages it. A heightened risk of deadly uncontrolled bleeding may also result from regular or excessive use of aspirin. In addition, once aspirin treatment discontinues, the risk of suffering a heart attack is greatly increased.

Warning: If you suffer from macular degeneration, the #1 cause of blindness in people over 55 years old, avoid taking aspirin. Also avoid smoking. Recent research found that smoking is the leading cause of macular degeneration; half of all smokers develop it. As soon as a person stops smoking, the risk lessens by one third. A major study linked aspirin to America’s epidemic of macular degeneration. The often prescribed one-aspirin-a-day routine makes the retinas more likely to hemorrhage. Besides, aspirin belongs to the same class of painkillers as Vioxx, Celebrex and Aleve, all of which were found to increase heart attack and stroke risk by over 50 percent.

Tests have shown that abstaining from food for a periodic length of time reduces the size and amount of both fat cells and collagen fiber deposits. Art Literally Brought Me Back To A Full Life

Nickolas Hale has a compelling tale to tell. He actually sought us out to relay his story.

He was working three jobs simultaneously and at 24 believed he was invincible. Well, that was, until he suffered a stroke as a consequence. As he lay in the Nepean Hospital and listened to the doctors pronounce that he would never walk again, it made him determine one thing, that he would prove them wrong.

As well as doing the rehab advised by the physiotherapists, he also began to express himself through art. Only five of the 40 who were in the same section as he, chose to do so. He definitely advanced more quickly than the other 35. After four months he walked out of hospital and is so grateful for the contribution art played in his recovery. He is married now with a son and maintains permanent employment. Art is his relaxation, therapy and hobby. He didn’t paint before the stroke but has unleashed a hidden talent now.

Meeting Nickolas and hearing his journey was made the more remarkable when I learnt that he also does volunteer work. This brave young man works with disabled children using both his expertise as a chef and as an artist. He shows them how to use the plate as a canvas. The children are encouraged to arrange food in tempting and colourful patterns. It is a favourite time of the week and he is astounded with the progress they have made.

Nickolas warns all would be, ‘invincible people’ to take time out and enjoy life.

Art played an enormous role in the life of Sylvia during her recovery from breast cancer. Encouraged by the Breast Cancer group in her area, she began painting with water colours. Her tutor saw her emerge from a nervous, worried lady to one of serenity and hope. It appeared as though healing and happiness grew with each brush stroke. Her career had been an academic one and she found little time for the arts.

With each new painting, so her skill developed from rank amateur to exhibition status. No one was more amazed than she, when her work sold and indeed, was sort after by art life took on a whole new perspective and led to a career and lifestyle change. Gone was the nervous woman and in her place a new Sylvia, who actually took time to see and enjoy the world around her. Her new found contentment was expressed in her subject matter and choice of colours. She is enthusiastic about life and is now encouraging others to explore their potential.

She has found art to be a soothing, satisfying way of alleviating stress in breast cancer victims and reports that many other ladies have developed new found talents too. When buying golf equipment, it is recommended to ask the supplier what level of handicap the club is best suited for. Some golfing equipment is specifically tailored for scratch players whilst some is more suitable for higher handicap players. For optimum playing it is recommended that golfers find out what their handicap is and find a golf club to suit. This is why understanding the handicap system is so important in the world of golf.

In golf, the handicap system is used to establish fair play between different levels of golfers in tournaments or friendly play. The handicap system is copyrighted by the Council of National Golf Unions (CONGU) and is a recognised system within the UK and Ireland. It basically measures an amateur golfer’s current standard of play. It also stands as a great way of measuring whether a golfer is making progress and highlights areas of a golfer’s technique requiring improvement. The higher the handicap of the golfer, the lower their golfing ability is considered to be.

How does a handicap work?

The extra shots a handicap player is allowed to take ensures that all golfers of different ability levels can play together as equals using a fair system and makes the game more interesting. The number of handicaps is deducted from the handicap golfer’s score on certain holes. Handicap scores range from 1 to 28 for men and 1 to 36 for women.

A golfer’s handicap score represents how many strokes are allowed to be deducted on particular holes. A scratch player is a person with zero handicaps and is expected to complete the course with the same score as the standard scratch score (SSS) of the course. The scratch score of a course isn’t necessarily the sum of par. The County Union calculates the scratch score by taking the length of the course and naturally difficult conditions into account and bases the SSS on that.

What are the methods of applying for a handicap?

Only golf clubs affiliated with CONGU may administer handicaps to amateur golfers. In order to obtain a handicap, golfers have to become a member of an affiliated club and submit 3 or more score cards to the club for calculation. The club will then assess a suitable handicap score using the golfer’s lowest score and calculating the difference between that and the scratch score of the course.

How are handicaps applied to different games?

Handicaps are used differently in match play and stroke play. In match play the handicap score is calculated using the difference between the players/teams’ handicaps and is distributed over the holes to be played. For example on an 18 hole course, if player A has a handicap of 18 and player B has a handicap of 24 then player B is allowed 6 strokes over the six hardest holes with no stroke allowance on the remaining 12. Has your doctor ever recommended a blood test to check your homocysteine level?

After you have read this article, I guarantee you will wonder why. Not many people have ever heard of it, yet it is responsible for 15% of all heart attacks and strokes in the world.

Wouldn’t it be worth to know more about this major killer, more so when you realize that you can correct it by simply taking vitamin B? The research on homocysteine was done by Dr. Kelmer Mc Cully, a promising pathologist and researcher, who graduated from the Harvard Medical School in the mid 1960’s.

Dr. Mc Cullly was in particular interested in studies that involved the connection of biochemistry with disease. He earned a strong reputation and became assistant professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr Mc Cully discovered that children who had a genetic defect that kept them from breaking down an essential amino acid called methionine. These children showed a tremendous buildup of a by-product, called homocysteine.

Dr. Mc Cully looked at two special cases of two under eight years old boys, who died from a heart attack. When he examined the boys’ pathology slides, he discovered that the damage to the arteries was similar to that of an elderly man, who had severe hardening of the arteries.

This led Dr. Mc Cully to wonder whether mild to moderate elevations of homocysteine that were present over a lifetime could be a cause of heart attacks and strokes in the average patient. Homocysteine is an intermediate byproduct that we produce when our bodies breakdown the amino acid called methionine. It is found in large quantities in meat, eggs, milk, cheese, white flour, canned foods and highly processed foods.

Unlike cholesterol, which the body needs for the production of certain cell parts and hormones, homocysteine provides no health benefit. The higher the level of homocysteine, the greater the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Homocysteine is converted by our bodies into either cysteine or back to methionine again. These products are not harmful, however, the enzymes to break down homocysteine into cysteine, need folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. If we are deficient in these nutrients, the homocysteine levels in our blood begin to rise.

Dr. Mc Cully’s theory was shut down and he lost his job at Harvard’s, because at that time the cholesterol- heart attack theory was gaining tremendous momentum and Dr Mc Cully’s hypothesis were a threat to its future.

The cholesterol theory achieved great victory and killed all other threatening theories.

Drug companies made their fortunes and everybody was convinced that heart attacks and strokes were associated with high blood cholesterol levels. Are you? If you have read my article about Nutritional Medicine, you should know better!

People who have Type 2 diabetes are two to four times more likely than non-diabetics to develop heart disease or have a stroke. It is also true approximately three-fourths of all diabetics die from heart disease.

But many diabetics might not be really aware of just how much diabetes can impact their heart, and in how many ways it can occur.

Cardio refers to “heart” and vascular means “blood vessels.” These two go hand-in-hand because the heart is the machine that pumps blood through your vessels. A problem anywhere in your body will affect how the cardiovascular system works.

Why does this happen? The same hormone, insulin, whose job it is to carry sugar into your cells for fuel also helps to lead fat into other body cells for storage. So if you lack insulin, or if it doesn’t work as it is supposed to, fat continues to circulate in your bloodstream. Too much sugar and too much fat floating around in your bloodstream leads to clogged blood vessels.

What is the result? The result is then:

high blood pressure,

clots forming, and

extra strain placed on your heart,

hence heart attack and stroke.

Blood Pressure: When blood vessels constrict and become pressurized, this pressure translates into elevated blood pressure throughout your body and especially in your heart. The damage allows plaque to build up, a condition known as atherosclerosis. This blockage allows even more pressure to build. When your blood pressure increases, even a little, it puts unnecessary strain on your heart making it work harder. But increasing it to this level, the strain it produces is extreme.

When blood pressure becomes elevated it also means there is a restricted flow of oxygen to your brain, other major organs, and your heart. This starving of oxygen also means tissue fed by this blood becomes starved, as well.

As Type 2 diabetes runs out-of-control, it means there are also dramatic negative changes within your blood. Elevated blood sugar levels means elevated LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, lower levels of HDL, or “good” cholesterol, and elevated triglyceride levels, which reflect the amount of fat in your blood. High blood sugar also means there is a significant increase in the likelihood of clotting, which is why diabetes increases the incidence of stroke.

If the person with diabetes also has a sedentary lifestyle, now the odds are increased even more. Add smoking or a high consumption of alcohol and they rise even higher. If these habits are not changed their heart is, in essence, the same as a ticking time bomb, waiting to experience an episode.
